The Chore List
The origin story behind We Robot
Like many of you, I have a lot going on. I have 2 kids, a business with 10 amazing people, 11 teachers, and 1 rabbit. I wipe the countertops every day, I pick up laundry, I wash dishes and there are times when I’m just so damn bored of it all that I want to scream.
Then I saw these videos of robots on youtube. I saw them passing the ball to Steph Curry I saw them jumping over stuff, and I saw them (yikes) shooting guns. I thought if that was all possible, it wasn’t crazy to want a robot that did the dishes. I wanted the jetsons!
I decided to start with a very simple list of simply the chores I wanted help with. I set aside an hour to think through all the details of what I wanted these robots to do. I started the project like I do with all projects, with a blackwing pencil and a blank sheet of paper. The whole thing took me 6 minutes. Turns out, there aren’t that may chores, it just feels like a lot because you spend so much time doing them.

I thought, damn. That’s a short list, maybe this will be easier than I thought. Well, that was dumb, it turned out to be really freaking hard. Fortunately, I like hard, so I got started.
It took me weeks just to get a price on the first robot. I couldn’t even get a price or find someone to sell me one. I got stuck on step 0!
I realized this was going to be a journey, not a project.
So the journey begins. I’m excited to share with you how robots are going to help you with your daily life. I’m documenting it all and I’ll be sharing all the details on how we reclaim some of our time by having the robots help us.
Welcome to We Robot.
